Bertha Sammons McCuin, 89, of Hector died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Atkins Care Center. She was born September 16, 1921, in Wilmot, AR, to Ellis and Almedia Sammons. She married Jim McCuin on October 8, 1939. She was a member of Hector Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim McCuin; a brother, Charles Sammons; two sisters, Ola Mae Sammons and Ernestine Hunt. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-laws, R.H and Barbara McCuin of Bastrop, LA, Ellis and Angela McCuin of Russellville; Herbert and Susan Hunt of Buttermilk; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elma Zell and J.D. Chronister of Buttermilk, and Lola and Ed Condley of Hector; a brother, Marvin “Bud” Sammons of Kilbourne, LA; five grandsons, Steve McCuin of Portland TN; Michael and Shonda McCuin of Dodge City, Kansas; Greg and April McCuin of Glenwood; Blake and Tess Condley of Little Rock; and Darryl Hunt of Buttermilk; four granddaughters, Theresa and Jerry Burris of Buttermilk; Stacy and Chris Martin of Hector; Olivia Condley Massey of Dover; and Stephanie and Bob Hummer of Russellville. 18 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Hanna, Tyler, Cade, Grayson, Brooklyn, and Clark McCuin; Evan Gray; Emma and Hannah Martin; Jordan, Jeffery and Patty Burris; Ayden, Averi and Weston Massey; Kai and Marley Condley; and Zoe Hummer. Two great-great grandchildren, Bexley McCuin; Jayce Burris, numerous nieces and nephews, and a very special friend Neva McGee of Lowell. She was a woman of many talents who enjoyed quilting at Hector Hardware, fishing, and working in her church. She was a founding member of the Hector Lions Club. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m Wednesday at Hector Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Mike Galloway. Burial will be at Nogo Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the grandchildren. The family will receive friends and family from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Lemley Funeral Home in Atkins.
