DeLon Moore

DeLon Moore, 91, of Atkins, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born January 4, 1923, in Carden Bottoms, son of the late Henry and Iva Dell Robinson Moore. He was a United States Army veteran and served with the Military Police during the Invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach. He worked as a sales distributor for Tom’s Peanuts for 35 years. He loved hunting, fishing and baseball and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved his family, especially the newborn babies. He enjoyed keeping his gardens, and was a Christian man who lived for God. He was preceded his parents; wife, Maxine; brother, Leon Moore; and 3 sisters, Ella Romine, Bertha Chesney and a baby sister Moore. He is survived by 2 sons, Robert Moore and wife Sandra, and Don Moore and wife Sue; 2 daughters, Barbara and husband Harlan East, and Marilyn and husband Danny Akins; 4 grandchildren, Cindy and husband Tommy Brown, Cheryl and husband Jarrod Couch, Terrence Moore and wife Alicia, and Asha and husband Jonathan Hentschel; 4 step-grandchildren, Allen East and wife Charlotte, Jack East and wife Deanne, Tammy and husband Adam Harger, and Matthew Akins and wife Shelba; and 11 great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Brown, Thomas Brown, Emma Moore, Ty Moore, JaLynn Hentschel, Trevin Harger, Shelby East, John Hunter East, Randi East, Kelsey East and Katie East. Funeral services are 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 24, at Lemley Chapel with Rev. David Downum officiating. Burial with military honors by VFW Rogers-Rye Post #2283 is in Pisgah Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday. Pallbearers are Jarrod Couch, Tommy Brown, Thomas Brown, Terrence Moore, Danny Akins, Harlan East and Donald Romine. Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Hentschel, Matthew Akins, Jack East, Allen East, and the staff of Atkins Nursing and Care Center.
