Dena Holloway Obituary

Dena Holloway passed Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. She was born July 25, 1950 to Will Dean and Beunice Holloway of Atkins. Dena was adopted by the Holloways after they waited 15 long years for a child. She was an answered prayer to their family, and she was loved unconditionally and given a wonderful life in Atkins. She attended Atkins schools, where she made life-long friends and graduated in 1968. Dena worked several jobs during her life including as a nurse at Saint Mary’s, but she considered her greatest accomplishment to be her three children. She also loved being a Mimi to her grandchildren and was especially close to Jeremiah. Dena loved to plant vegetable and flower gardens and would frequently can and give salsa and pickles to family. She enjoyed her dogs, cats, horses, and looking at cookbooks to find new recipes to try. She had a wealth of stories about growing up in Atkins and the times she and her friends had at school. She enjoyed getting together with her friends ‘the girls’ for dinner and catching up on old times. She treasured her life-long friendships. The family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Heart Transplant Institute, and especially her doctor of 27 years Dr. Steve Hutchins and his staff Lola Fish, RN and Wes Hall, PA. With this caring medical team by her side, Dena was able to live many years healthy and was able to see her grandchildren born and enjoy life. Dena is survived by her three children Sonja Bowden (Lance) of Atkins, Bryce Ward (Janeé) of Oppelo, and Brock Spear of Rison, AR. Grandchildren are Chase, Paige, and Hadlee Ward, Rylee and Baylee Bowden, and Jeremiah Spear. Her cousins that she loved dearly Kenneth McAlister of Norfolk, VA and Carolyn Caig of Little Rock. She is also survived by her loving partner of many years, Jody Peak of Atkins. Funeral services are 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 19, at Sweet Home Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Coy Williams officiating. Burial is in Palmetto Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Lemley Chapel. Pallbearers are Rylee Bowden, David Griffin, Jim Peak, Dewy Holstead, and Joe Peak III. Honorary pallbearers are Gail King, Pat Duvall, Lissa Teal, Rita Travis, Brenda Fraizer, Peggy Foster, Nancy Parker, and Jan Burnett.
