Ellis Reynolds Obituary

Ellis Reynolds, 97, of Atkins died Saturday, October 13, 2007, at his home. Born June 8, 1910, he was the son of the late Iley Carr Reynolds and Tennessee Eunice Boyd Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Duvall Reynolds; one brother, Elgie Reynolds, and two sisters, Vera Reynolds Jackson and Elsie Reynolds Sorrels all of Atkins. A printer and newspaperman, he was honored in 2001 by the Arkansas Press Association for 50 years of service. He began his career at the Atkins Chronicle in 1934 as editor and printer and worked there until 1942, when he began work with the Morrilton Democrat as linotype operator. He left there to join Poindexter Printing in Morrilton in 1960, where he worked 15 years. Following retirement, in 1976, he returned to the Atkins Chronicle where he worked as a printer, advisor and proofreader. He resigned from the Chronicle due to health in July of this year. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he was adult Sunday School teacher for many years. He was an officer of the Three-County Singing Convention during the 1960s and 1970s, and was secretary of the Arkansas State Singing Convention during a portion of that same period of time. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Reynolds Collins of North Little Rock; two granddaughters, Jana Collins Bundy of Dorchester, U.K. and Krin Sueref of Hampshire, U.K. and one great-granddaughter, Gretchen Yoes of Fort Smith. A service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 18, 2007, at Lemley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Al Sparkman and the Rev. David Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday. His nephews, Carroll Reynolds, Linden Reynolds, Kyle Sorrels, Michael Sorrels, and his cousins, Van Allen Tyson and James Roy Tyson will serve as pallbearers. Former and current employees of the Atkins Chronicle will be honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Cemetery, PO Box 440, Atkins, AR 72823, or to Hopewell Baptist Church, c/o Sam Young, 1084 Murdoch Road, Atkins, AR 72823.
