Elmous Lavon (Stan) Stanley, 86, of Atkins, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012. He was born on November 23, 1925, in Shirley, Arkansas. He graduated from Atkins High School in 1944. Following his service in the US Navy during World War II, he graduated with honors from Hendrix College. He retired after 42 years from Motors Insurance Corporation, a division of General Motors, where he spent the last 12 years as Regional Manager in the New Orleans branch. He was a lifelong Methodist and a member of the Atkins United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Kathryn; his loving parents, Leonard and Clara Stanley; and his son-in-law, Bob Barton. He is survived by his five children: daughter, Brenda Kathryn Stanley of Atkins; son, Phillip Lavon Stanley and wife Susan of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Jo Ann Barton of Pickerington, Ohio; son, James Don Stanley of Atkins; and daughter, Cynthia Lu Stanley of Russellville; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Lea Shahan, Dylan James Stanley, Samantha Rose Rundell, Jacob James Stanley, Ashley Rose Marian Stanley-Stevenson, Tobias Lavon Wray, and Jessica Marie Curley; and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday, March 7. Funeral services are 1:30 PM Thursday, March 8 at Lemley Chapel in Atkins. Burial is in Oakland Cemetery north of Atkins. Pallbearers are Tobias Wray, Dylan Stanley, Jacob Stanley, Toby Staggs, Jim Curley and Sean Stevenson.
