Emma Zee Shackleford

Emma Zee Shackleford, 97, of Russellville, Arkansas, went home to be with her Lord on January 2, 2021. She was born December 29, 1923, in Atkins, Arkansas, to Bill J. and Lethie (McGee) Virden. Zee was a devote Christian, growing up in the Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Shackleford; siblings J.D. (Maxine) Virden and Wilma (Robert) Barefield. Survivors include a brother, Jerry (Joyce) Virden, of Little Rock; plus numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Zee was always associated with telephone companies from Southwestern Bell through AT&T until she retired as an executive secretary in 1986. She was also involved in stock clubs and cattle ranching with her husband, George, on the Hurricane Ranch, Pope County, Arkansas. These ventures involved swine farrowing, Shetland ponies, oil leasing, and Brangus cattle. In all endeavors Zee approached life with elegance and grace. Her fierce love of family, along with commitment to friends, far surpassed any material accomplishments. For this legacy, her loved ones are truly thankful. A graveside service will be held at 2:00, Friday, January 8, 2021, Oakland Cemetery, officiated by Brother Jim Harbert and Lemley Funeral Service, Atkins, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Kim Virden, Kelton Virden, Doug Virden, Chris Virden, Jon Virden, and Josh Virden.
