Euel E. "Crip" Harelson

Euel E. “Crip” Harelson, 89, of Atkins, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born August 16, 1923, in Atkins, the son of James Monroe and Margaret Josephine Leggett Harelson. He was a deacon of the Atkins First Baptist Church, retired from Cross Auto Supply after 50 years, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Bizzell Harelson; parents; 5 brothers, Tom, Willie, Ralph, Thurman and Fred Harelson; a sister, Ava Jo Simmons; and a son, Donald Harelson. He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, David Harelson and wife Sharron, and Dennis Harelson and wife Anne; 5 grandchildren, Melissa Kendall, Kelsey Harelson, Hillary Elliott, Kristen Finley and Nikole Birge; 6 great-grandchildren, Turner Skelton, Kayla Manrrique, Madelyn Elliott, Lydia Elliott, Kaden Birge and Camden Finley; and a great-great-grandchild, Aubree Kendall. Funeral services are 11:00 AM Monday, July 8, at Atkins First Baptist Church with Rev. Ira Taylor officiating. Burial with military honors by VFW Rogers-Rye Post #2283 is in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday. Pallbearers are Turner Skelton, Kelsey Harelson, D.J. McAfee, Ben Finley, Chris Elliott and Gary Simmons. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made to the Atkins First Baptist Church, 201 N. Church St., Atkins, AR 72823, the American Cancer Society, c/o Judy Murphy, Pope Co.
