Euleta Murdoch

Euleta Murdoch, daughter of Marion and Etta Jackson Murdoch was born September 3,1913, and died July 17, 2007 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. Born and raised in Atkins, AR, she attended elementary school and was an honor graduate of Atkins High School. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Reba Murdoch and Earlene Matthews. She is survived by two nephews, Jerry Matthews of Nashville, TN, John Paul Matthews and his wife, Penny, of Old Hickory, TN, and a number of cousins who have cared for her in her later years. A retired teacher, having earned a BSE degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway, an MA and EDS from George Peabody College (now Vanderbilt) in Nashville, TN, she began her teaching career in the Atkins area. She then taught in Earle, AR, Georgia State Teachers College in Statesboro, GA and Hughes, AR, where she became a principal and then coordinator of Federal Programs from 1965 until 1982 when she retired and moved back to Atkins. Being a member of many organizations, she has served as an officer and member of many local and state committees. It was quite an honor for her to have been chosen president of Atkins United Methodist woman; Pope County Teachers (no longer in existence), St. Francis County teachers Association; Tau Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma; Hughes Methodist Women; Arkansas Federal Coordinators Association; Hughes Parent Teachers Association; Pope County Retired Teachers Association, and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. She was a life member of Arkansas Parent Teachers and United Methodist Women. Since the age of ten, she was a member of the Methodist Church and had served as chairperson of the Administrative Board in Atkins United Methodist Church. In 1951, she was initiated into Tau Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma and when she retired transferred membership to NU Chapter in Russellville and served as treasurer of that group for several years. At their January meeting, 2002, she was honored for being a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for over 50 years. The funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 19 2007, at the Atkins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Woody and Rev. Joe Kitchen officiating. Burial will be in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service. The family will receive friends and relative from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Phillip Haney, Bob Morton, Larry Carter, Larry Wiley, Raymond Wiley and Toby Whitcomb. Honorary bearers will be C. B. Haney, J. B. Murdoch, Ben Rice and Frank Pickle, Lavonne Stanley, Elmo Bizzel, James Teal and Floyd Fryer. Memorials may be made to the Atkins United Methodist Church, c/o Meribeth Durbin, 206 NW 17th Street, Atkins, AR 72823.
