Eunice M. Cooksey

Eunice Cooksey left this life Sunday, July 5th, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 98 years old.She was born January 13, 1922, in Coaldale, Alabama to Louis and Lizzie White. She married Edmond Wilder in 1939 and was widowed in 1953. She married Albert Ray “Punk” Cooksey on December 28, 1955, and they were married 60 years until his passing in 2016. Eunice worked a variety of jobs in her lifetime, to include waitressing, sales clerk, “lunch lady” and janitor. She strove to do the best job possible at whatever she worked. She was passionate about quilt making and took a tremendous amount of satisfaction in creating beautiful quilts which she knew would keep her family and friends warm. She loved to cook and feed people and was never happier than when she had a house full of folks to enjoy a meal.Her biggest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, always putting the needs of her family before her own. She was preceded by the love of her life, Ray Cooksey, one son, Jimmie Wilder, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Earl Wilder (Pam), of Ramona, California, her daughters, Virginia Largent (John) of Phoenix, Arizona and Terri Loperfido (Tom) of Rush, Kentucky, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside service and burial is 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 13, at Oakland Cemetery in Atkins. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
