H. L. “Son” Sweeden, 87, died Friday, April 18, 2008 in Little Rock. He was born September 23, 1920, in Atkins, son of Lenox and Sarah Clark Sweeden. He was preceded in death by his wife Oneta Sweeden, his parents and a sister, Mary Alice Vest. He was a loving husband and father, retired truck driver, and member of the V.F.W. For his service in World War II he was awarded three Bronze Stars.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Anna Fike of Russellville, Nina and Jerry Davis of Atkins; a brother Bud Sweeden of Fort Smith; grandchildren, Missy Haney, Ronnie Davis, Keith Fike, Kevin Fike, Terry Poynter, Roxanne Jones; 10 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, April 21, 2008, at Lemley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J. C. Kinder officiating. Burial will be in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.
Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Davis, Keith Fike, Kevin Fike, Eddie Higman, Toby Whitcomb, Shawn Crites and Tyler Haney.
