Herman Walker

Herman Troy Walker, 73, of Pottsville, departed this life on August 4, 2011 at his home. He was born May 20, 1938 in Carroll County near Berryville. He owned and operated Walker’s Backhoe Service where he provided services for many in and around the Pope County area for years. Herman was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to hunt and fish. He was the son of the late Homer Walker and Chloe Usrey Walker Roberts and the step-son of John D. Roberts. Herman was the fifth oldest of his nine siblings, Grady Usrey, J.C. Walker, Louise Faulkner, Bill Walker, Kathleen Walker, Athleen Reyes, Leonard Walker, Laddie Roberts and Frankie Payne. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Herman married Donna Lou Norwood on April 27, 1957 in Salinas, CA. They moved the family from Greenfield, CA to Atkins in November 1971. Herman and Donna were married for 54 years and had four children: Diane Virden (Mike) of Russellville, David Walker (Annette) of Dover, and the late Mark Walker of Atkins and Kenny Walker of Pottsville. Herman has 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. For those wishing to say goodbye, the funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 8 with Rev. Don Erwin officiating. Burial is in Oakland Cemetery by Lemley Funeral of Atkins. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Sunday. Pallbearers are Zach Walker, Justin Eakin, Josh Walker, Jeremy Wilmoth, David Smith and Walter Parks. The family would like to give a special thanks to Arkansas Hospice for the wonderful care and attention during the last several months. Special thanks to Nanette, Carol, Don Erwin and the rest of the Arkansas Hospice team. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 2405 East Parkway, Russellville, AR 72802.
