James Statler

James Vernon Statler, 82, of Atkins, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at his home. He was born January 26, 1931, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, son of the late Carol Roscoe and Lottie Belle Casey Statler. He was a Korean War Veteran, a retired crane operator, and attended the Atkins Church of Christ. In recent years, he was a loving caregiver for his wife of 57 years, Carolyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carol Eugene Statler; and a sister, June Lee Arquette. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brock Statler; a son, James Vernon, II and wife Kim, all of Atkins; 3 daughters, Sheila and husband Tommy Lemley of Greenwood, Tracey and husband Jeff Geren of Ft. Smith, and Shannon and husband Phillip Haney of Atkins; brother, Buddy Statler; 4 sisters, Jewell Webb, Shirley Crosswhite, Rita Scroggins and Sarah Ramsey; 10 grandchildren, Matt Geren, Maggie Geren, Kaci Rood, Shelby Statler, Sarah Haney, Seth Haney, Samantha Rogers, Jennifer Lemley, James Lemley and John Lemley; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 29, at Lemley Chapel with Neal Chism officiating. Burial with military honors by Rogers-Rye Post #2283 is in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday. Pallbearers are James Lemley, John Lemley, Matt Geren, Seth Haney, Preston Rood and Russell Statler. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Judy Murphy, Pope County Memorial Chair, 126 Lakeview Circle Russellville, Arkansas 72802.
