James Burris Obituary

James Earl Burris, 92, of Appleton died Friday, November 29, 2013, at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville. He was born September 3, 1921, in Jerusalem, AR, to Charley and Malissie Burris. He was a farmer, grew chickens for Tyson Foods for 48 years, and was a proud member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gertrude and Ona; a brother, Carl; and his beloved wife of 64 years, Iva Hodge Burris. Survivors include a son, Johnny Burris; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and RC Henderson of Charlotte, NC, Anita and Greg Berge of Huntsville, AL, and Angela and Matt Slaughter of Springdale, AR; four grandsons, Kevin and Alice Talkingon, Matt Talkington, Mark Talkington, and David and Julie Berge; 14 great grandchildren, Tyler, Allison, A.J., Alyssa, Nathaniel, Paige, Caleb, and Taylor Talkington, Belle, Estella Dru, and Jeb Slaughter, and Maddisyn, Gabriel, and James Ian Berge; 3 great-great grandchildren, Cru James, and Laylah and Jayla Talkington. Funeral will be Monday, December 2 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church with the Reverends Matt Slaughter and Mark Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Crossroads Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service. Visitation is from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include grandsons, great-grandsons, Chris Vincent, Jennings Loveless, and James Chronister.
