Jannette Gowens

Jannette M. Gowens, 85, of Ft. Smith, passed away Thursday, January 14, at Methodist Health and Rehab in Ft. Smith. She was born September 18, 1935, in Morrilton, daughter of the late Raymond and Lucille Cheek Maus. She was a member of the “Sweet Adelines” and enjoyed music. She and her twin sister loved to laugh and were always the life of the party. They became local celebrities in Ft. Smith every 4th of July, decked out in their best patriotic apparel at the Mayor’s Day celebrations. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ramona Eheman. She is survived by her husband, Hugh Gowens; daughters, Beth Bohannon and Kathy Bolin; twin sister, Annette May; brother, Mike Maus; stepchildren, Linda Trent, Elaine Milliken, and Roger Gowens; grandchildren, Erica Barnett, Bryce Barnett, Candice Bruce, Rachael Owen, and Koby House; and great-grandchildren, Rhea Fruth, Lawson Bruce, Kane Bruce, Eliana Muzquiz, and a great-grandson due in May. Graveside service and burial is 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 19, at Atkins City Cemetery with Father Ernie Hardesty officiating under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
