Jean M. Murdoch

Jean McMahen Murdoch, 86, of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at UAMS in Little Rock. She was born in Emerson, Arkansas, on February 2, 1924, the daughter of Walter C. and Ida Mae Dumas McMahen. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Bradley James Gilbert; and two sisters, Willeane Tankersley and Flay Bearden. She was a graduate of Magnolia High School, Arkansas Tech University, and received her Master’s degree from Oklahoma State University. Mrs. Murdoch was an Associate Professor in Business Education at Arkansas Tech for 18 years. She also taught one year at Garland County Community College in Hot Springs. She was a member of Russellville First Baptist Church where she was active in the Berean Sunday School Class, Young at Heart, and the Senior Adult Outreach Choir. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Quentin Murdoch of Russellville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger and Jamie Gilbert and Nan and Greg Nelson, all of Russellville; four grandchildren, Kristen Dewhurst of Wells, Maine, Dr. David Nelson and wife Dr. Kristen Nelson of Little Rock, LeeAnne Nelson of Dallas, TX, and Lauren Nelson of Russellville; two great-grandchildren, Phenix and Drake Dewhurst of Wells, Maine; one brother, W.C. “Dub” McMahen and wife Opal of Zwolle, Louisiana, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 28, 2010, at Russellville First Baptist Church with Drs. Stephen Davis and Tom Walker officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Atkins by Lemley Funeral Service. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM at Lemley Funeral Service in Atkins. Pallbearers are Jamie Gilbert, Greg Nelson, David Nelson, Gary Murdoch, Timm Murdoch, David H. Murdoch, Wil Wilhite, Joe Duvall, Paige McMahen and Bobby Pitts. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Berean and Golden Voyagers Sunday School classes and other Senior Adults of First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Russellville First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 36, Russellville, AR 72811, or Gideons International.
