L.C. Hipps Obituary

L.C. Hipps, 92, of Russellville, while at home surrounded by family, went to be with his Lord Thursday, March 24, 2011. He was born May 11, 1918 to John and Laura Hipps in Atkins. He attended Pottsville Freewill Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Infantry Division. In the 60’s he owned and operated a Mobil Service Station on the corner of 4th St. and Arkansas in Russellville. He retired from Conagra, where he worked on the maintenance crew for 18 years. He spent many years playing and coaching the game of baseball and was an avid Cardinals fan. He also played the mandolin for the Spiritual Five Gospel Group. Most of all, he loved spending time with his many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include hise wife of 62 years, Jo Ann Dennis Hipps; one son, Danny Hipps and wife Linda of Chickalah; two daughters, Carol Taylor and husband Danny and Judy Mackey and husband Mike; eight grandkids, Danny Hipps II and wife Richie of Russellville, Chad Hipps and wife Tammy of Berryville, Carrie Taylor Shaffer and Jerry of Geneva, Illinois, Leslie Mackey Thomas and husband Leslie of Ft. Smith, April Wendland and husband Greg of Hot Springs, Tessa Taylor Dickerson and husband Erik of Pottsville, Lindsey Mackey Phillips and husband Brian of Cave Springs, and Lawson Hipps of Russellville; 17 great-grandkids; one brother, Emmit Hipps of Valley Center, Kansas; and one sister, Alma Hipps Carson of Cabot. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 28 at Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Geno Johnston officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00-7:00 PM at Shinn Funeral in Russellville. Arrangements are by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Pallbearers include Danny Taylor, Mike Mackey, Ronnie Adkison, Danny Hipps II, Chad Hipps and Lawson Hipps. Special thanks to caregiver Penni Etheridge, Hospice and Dr. Beavers.
