Lee Roy “Papa” Karnes, 99, of Dover, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the Atkins Nursing Center. He was born April 27, 1916, on Tucker Mountain, son of the late Lee Noland and Celia Bell Williams Karnes. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Dell Wait Karnes; 3 sons, C.L. Karnes, Jackie Karnes and Billy James Karnes; 2 daughters, Joyce Poynter and an infant daughter; 3 brothers; 8 sisters; great-grandson, Charles Meriweather; and great-great-grandson, Gideon Turner. He is survived by a son, Rick Karnes and wife Vickie of Dover; 2 daughters, Rex Ann and husband William Roderick of Moreland, and Royallene and husband Cletis Storment of Benton; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 1, at Gravel Hill Church of Christ with William Roderick and Scott Roderick officiating with singing led by Jerry Turner. Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, at Lemley Chapel. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are the nurses and staff of Atkins Nursing Center.
