Linda Lou Sorrels

Linda L. Sorrels, 57, of Pottsville died Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. She was born December 29, 1951, in Magnolia, daughter of Joe Frank and Loretta Shaw Boyce. She was preceded in death by her father, and grandparents, Walter and Luna Mason Boyce and T.F. and Lucy Ellington Shaw. She was a retired principal at Pottsville Elementary. During her fifteen year career she taught kindergarten, third grade, sixth grade, and had been an assistant principal. A 1970 graduate of Ola High School, she was class salutatorian, All-State in choir, All-District in basketball and attended Girl’s State. She graduated from ATU in 1985 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and later obtained her Master of Science degree in Education Administration from the University of Central Arkansas. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Linda was a talented pianist, singer and songwriter. She was a great influence on her family, friends, co-workers and students. She is survived by her husband Joe E. Sorrels of Pottsville; son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Savannah Sorrels of Texas; daughter, Brooke Sorrels of Pottsville; mother Loretta Boyce of Ola; brother and sister-in-law, Danny Joe and Joy Boyce of Ola; sister, Tammy Skelton of Centerville; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Mason and Lily Kate Sorrels of Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be 10:00 AM, Friday, January 16, at The Second Baptist Church of Russellville, Rev. Brent Sorrels, Rev. Robbie Jackson, and Rev. Bobby Biggers officiating. Burial will be in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service. Pallbearers are Chris Sorrels, Casey Sorrels, Matt Jones, Michael Flory, Darren Boyce, Mike Shaw and Matt McClellan. Honorary pallbearers will be Pottsville Faculty and School Board and Deacons of Second Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Huntingtons Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018, or to The Second Baptist Church, 1100 N. Frankfurt, Russellville, AR 72801.
