Loraine Reed Atkins, Arkansas Obituary

Loraine Reed

Loraine Hurley Reed, 92, formerly of Atkins, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Premier Health and Rehabilitation Center in North Little Rock. She was born November 10, 1922, in Hector. She was raised in the Ozark Mountains in a family of farmers and moved to North Little Rock in the 1950's. She worked as an employee of C.B. Thompson's Grocery Store (now Fort Thompson's Sporting Goods) for 35 years and would retire back to a 260 acre Ozark cattle farm in the early 80's, where she and her husband raised cattle, gardened, and entertained family and friends or "her people" as she so fondly referred to them. She was known for her sense of humor, loving nature, compassion and pecan pies. We all figure she greeted St. Peter with a smile and a Karo Nut Pie in hand. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Reed; parents, Bert and Nola Hurley; step-father, Joe Hurley; and brother, Geral Don Hurley. She is survived by son, Wayne Reed and wife Jeanie; granddaughter, Annie and husband Todd Adams; grandson, David Reed and wife Paige; great-grandson, Zachary Garrison; great-granddaughter, Riley Cate Reed; goddaughters, Dee Ann Holt and Mada Stanley; brother and sister-in-law, Burl Hurley and wife Ruby; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and husband Dwight Brannon; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Hurley. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 17, at Lemley Chapel, with Rev. James Chronister and Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Burial is in Rock Springs Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Lemley Chapel. Pallbearers are Randy Eakins, Robert Lee Tackett, Jimmy Reed, Eddie Tackett, Andy Tackett, Frank Southard, Eugene Duvall and Donnie Duvall. Honorary pallbearers are C.B. Thompson and Roland Tackett.
