Myrtle R. Thigpen Atkins, Arkansas Obituary

Myrtle R. Thigpen

MYRTLE REBECCA THIGPEN, 85, North Little Rock, went to be with her Lord, January 14, 2010. Born in a two room farmhouse in Milton, Kansas, December 13, 1924, to Joe and Mintey Sipult, she was a wonderful and much loved mother, daughter, and wife. Her honesty was only overshadowed by her kindness and generosity. She worked tirelessly for 37 years, from the opening of the Little Rock Air Base, as the Assistant Field Director of the American Red Cross on base; spending countless hours and holidays, at home and at her office obtaining emergency leave for military personnel, giving emergency loans to military families with hardships, and coordinating Red Cross Blood Drives on base and in Jacksonville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Little Rock. She was preceded in death, by her parents, Joe and Mintey Sipult, her husband, Hoyt Carlton Thigpen, and her brother, Wayne Sipult. She leaves behind to cherish her memory sons Rodney (Helen) Thigpen of North Little Rock, and Dennis (Karen) Thigpen of Redfield; the joy of her life, her granddaughter, Alexandra Rose Thigpen; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 19, in the Little Rock National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, P.O.Box 191051, Little Rock, AR 72219.
