Oscar Nelson, 88, of Atkins, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 28, 2009, at River Valley Medical Center. He was born February 18, 1921, in Newton County, the son of Charley and Virginia Hudson Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years Mary Lou Vena Nelson, daughter, Darlena Bankhead, 2 brothers, Fred and Willie Nelson, 6 sisters, Goldie Williamson, Emma Crow, Florence Metz, Cleora Dotson, Julia Nelson and Maggie Nelson. During his life time he was a sawmiller, logger and a poultry farmer. He was a Army veteran and enjoyed going to church on Sunday and the singing on Friday nites. He was a life member of the North New Hope Assembly of God Church and attended the Sweet Home Free Will Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Fay Cochran of Dover, Margaret and Larry Ennis of Atkins, 5 grandchildren and spouses, Jeff and Susie Ennis, Jayme and Barbara Ennis, Brandi and Greg Kendrick, Michael Bankhead and Jennifer Bankhead, 12 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren Funeral service will be Monday, August 31, 2009 at 2:00 PM at North New Hope Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jimmy Chronister officiating. Visitation is 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday at Lemley Funeral Service. Pallbearer will be Jeff Ennis, Jayme Ennis, Greg Kendrick, Karl Metz, Keith Metz, Cody Ennis. Honorary pallbearers will be Vester Dotson and members of Sweet Home Free Will Baptist Church.
