Rose Kathryn Stanley Obituary

Rose Kathryn Stanley, 82, of Atkins, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at home surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was born February 14, 1928, in Bonanza, Arkansas, to the late Louis and Rosa Ellen Snider Phillips and was adopted and raised by Louis’ brother, the late S.B. Phillips and his wife Lena. She was the youngest of thirteen children and had two adopted brothers, Don and Clyde Phillips. Rose Kathryn had a profound love for her family and dedicated her life to providing a loving and joyful home. She graduated from Atkins High School in 1946, and went on to attend Nixon Clay Commercial College in Austin, Texas. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Atkins where she married Elmous Lavon Stanley, son of the late Leonard and Clara Stanley of Atkins, on August 2, 1949. Rose Kathryn is survived by her husband Lavon of Atkins, five children: daughter, Brenda Kathryn Stanley of Atkins; son, Philip Lavon Stanley and wife Susan of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Jo Ann Barton and husband Bob of Columbus OH; son, James Don Stanley of Atkins; and daughter, Cynthia Lu Stanley of Russellville; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Leah Shahan, Dylan James Stanley, Samantha Rose Rundell, Jacob James Stanley, Ashley Rose Marian Stanley-Stevenson, Tobias Lavon Wray, Jessica Marie Curley and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Dylan Stanley, Jacob Stanley, Tobias Wray, Jim Curley, Sean Stevenson and cousin Toby Staggs. Honorary pallbearers will be her long time caregivers – the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice, especially Nenette Schell and Carol Allen. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 2405 E. Parkway Suite #3, Russellville, AR 72802 Services will be held at Lemley Funeral Home in Atkins on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 1:30 PM, the Rev. Don Erwin officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 17th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. We will miss her greatly but find comfort in knowing she will be watching over us until we meet again.
