Vickie Norris

Vickie J. Norris, 68, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the Russellville Nursing Center. She was born June 10, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas, daughter of the late Eulas and Juanita Teeter Norris. She trained at the Southwest Lighthouse for the Blind, later working making helmet straps for the government. She won the Peter J. Salmon Award for Blind Worker of the Year on May 18th 1977 presented to her by President Carter in St. Petersburg Beach, FL. She was a member of the Crow Mountain Home Extension and won the Women of the Year for 2003-2004 for her work crocheting 30 lap quilts for nursing home residents. Over the years she has crocheted many throws and baby blankets for many family members and friends, while continuing to make them for many residents of Russellville Nursing Home. She is survived by a brother, Robert Norris and wife Charlotte of Atkins; sister, Judy and husband Ron Hart of Eastland, Texas; niece, Kylee Nicely of Granbury, Texas; and 2 nephews, Kyle Norris of Atkins, and Ty Hart of Lulling, Texas. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Hoskins Cemetery, with Pastor Steve Pyle officiating under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
