George Turner

George Wallace Turner, 88 of Van Buren passed on to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 12, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. George was born August 2, 1929 to Percy & Thyra Turner. He was born and raised in the catcher community, the place he still called home. At the age of 17, he convinced his mother to let him join the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Fort Marion from 1946 to 1950. He returned home and met the woman he would wed and love for 65 years, Lavelle (Moore) Turner. Together they have been the anchor of a family overflowing with love and ever growing. He loved playing baseball. He was a catcher on the field just like his dad, son and grandsons. He was the owner of Turner’s Plumbing and took great pride in the work he did as a master plumber. For 45 years he served as a deacon at Catcher Freewill Baptist Church where he was a pillar of faith and fellowship. He was a man who would do anything for the people he loved, and to the people who love him, he is a hero. George was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Thyra Turner; his brother, Billy Turner; his three sisters, Dola Turner, Loretta Holder and Judy Cody; his daughter-in-law Kimberly Turner. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M.
