Hester Lawson

Hester Mae Lawson “Lou Steen” as she was affectionately called was born November 19, 1931 to Lonnie Steen, Sr. and Melissa Pittman. She departed her earthly home on May 28, 2015 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Hester became a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Tillar, AR where she accepted Christ at an early age, under the leadership of Reverend Willie Shaw. She worked for over 20 years at Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in McGehee, AR. Hester was liked by all she came in contact with and she will be remembered for her beautiful smile and caring spirit. Hester was married to Levi Lawson, Jr. for 27 years and to their union 3 sons were born, one of whom preceded her in death. Hester was preceded in death by her father and mother, Lonnie Steen, Sr. and Melissa Pittman, her husband, Levi Lawson Jr., and a son, Herman Steen; 3 brothers, Jessie Steen Sr., Lonnie Steen Jr., and Booker T. Steen; 3 sisters, Rosie Lee Steen, Dora Oats, and Elzena Lewis. Her memory will be cherished by her sons Michael Lawson and Tracey Lawson, Sr. (Loleta) of Tillar, AR; a brother, Lee Chester Steen (Joyce) of Monticello, AR; a sister-in-law, Georgia Ann Steen of McGehee, AR; 4 grandchildren, Victoria Steen and LeToria Steen of Kansas City MO, Jatorra Lawson of Arlington TX, and Tracey Lawson, Jr. of Tillar, AR; 2 great-grandchildren; 6 Step-Children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am Saturday, June 6, 2015 at St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church in Tillar, AR (Wolfe Project Community). Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday June 6, 2015 at St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church in Tillar, AR with Rev. Eddie Allen, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Palestine Cemetery in McGehee, AR.
