Carlis Bowen Obituary

Mr. Carlis Bowen of Jonesboro, Arkansas, went to Heaven on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the age of 78. He was born September 29, 1939 at Caraway, Arkansas, the son of R.E. “Dick” and Thelma (Parks) Bowen. Carlis was a 1958 graduate of Weiner High School, later earning a certification in TV Repair from NRI Electronics School. He was a pioneer in the installation of cable television throughout Northeast Arkansas, where he was the owner/operator of Carlyde and Westside Cable Service for 20 years. Carlis was an all around good guy who was loved by all who knew him. He had an infectious laugh, whose pretty blue eyes were loved by his wife. Carlis enjoyed the Arkansas Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals, but especially loved watching his children play sports and cheer for the Weiner Cardinals. He enjoyed photography, wood working, and had the ability to fix anything. He was truly a jack of all trades. Carlis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Montie H. Bowen; and one sister, Corenia Crowell. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, 11 months, 1 week, and 4 days, May (Whybrew) Bowen of the home; one son, Steve Bowen and wife, Dr. Pamela Joy, of Vilonia; two daughters, Lisa Bowen of Walnut Ridge, and Pam Bowen of Anchorage, Alaska; three brothers, Claude Bowen and wife, Andrea, of Newport, Glenn Bowen and wife, Deborah, of Pensacola, Florida, and Ricky Bowen and wife, Holly, of Jonesboro; two sisters, Cleo Testone of Conway, and Karen Smith of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Felicia, Blane, Dr. Aaron Sean, Marissa, Christina, Jay, and Madison; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Parker and his son, Steve Bowen officiating. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Dr. Aaron Sean Bowen, Blane Bowen, Michael Bowen, Tony Bowen, Jayden Bowen, Jay Rowe, Lane Rennicke, and Gary Ellis.
