Dorothy (Nave) Boggs Tirey

Mrs. Dorothy Annette Tirey of Newport, Arkansas departed this life on September 16, 2017, at the age of 88. She was born May 25, 1929, at home in Owensboro, Kentucky. The daughter of Carl and Naomi Owsley Nave. The Nave family moved from Owenboro, KY to Auvergne with Dorothy as a young girl. As time passed the family moved to the Hickory Grove farm where they settled and grew. Dorothy graduated from Newport High School as an honor graduate in 1947. She worked at the Newport telephone office after she graduated. During this time she met Jimmie Boggs and they were married in 1948. Jimmie was in the Navy so they traveled coast to coast. Dorothy had two children during the travels, Shirley and Jim. When Jimmie returned from the Navy in 1954 they moved home. Home was in Arkansas, and that is where Suzanne was born. Dorothy held on to her faith with God’s grace during the passing of her husband in 1955 and son in 1986. She remarried in 1957 and was the mother to eight children for 7 years. Later in years she went to work at American Lantern until 1982, at which time she went back to school to become a LPN at age 53. She graduated in 1983 with her LPN license. She worked as a LPN for fifteen years at Old Regional and Pinedale Nursing Homes. Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School class and played piano for openings. She loved her grandchildren whole heartedly. She made daily visits to see them. She was a talented seamstress. She hada love for planting flowers and loved watching hummingbirds. She worked part time in day care loving on other people’s sweet children until she was no longer able. Her memory was sharp as a tack until her last days. Anyone that knew her has heard her famous saying, “I’ll think about it” and we loved her and gave her the time and space to think about things. She was strong which helped her to endure life’s storms.
