Earl R. Simpson, 81, of Harrisburg went home to be with his Lord Sunday, October 9, 2017 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. He was born May 8, 1936 in San Francisco, California. Earl was the son of Glenn Dennis and Verda (Jones) Simpson. Mr. Earl Simpson married Miss Evelyn “Jan” Hitt on March 5, 1956 and they have enjoyed sixty-one years of marriage. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jeffery Simpson, and two brothers: Clyde and Larry Simpson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for twenty years, was an Amateur Ham Radio Operator, volunteered in the American Red Cross for fifteen years, from them he received a Life Time Award. Earl is a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Harrisburg, enjoyed traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Jan (Hitt) Simpson of the home in Harrisburg, one son, Alan and wife Anita Simpson of Naylor, Missouri, daughter, Ann and husband David Moore of Greensboro, North Carolina, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and daughter-in-law, Alin Simpson of Connell, Washington. Funeral services are 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel with visitation Wednesday from 6:00~8:00. Services will be conducted by Bro. Gary Brown, Pastor of North Main Baptist Church in Jonesboro and Bro. Charles Lewis, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Harrisburg. These men will serve as active pallbearers: David Moore, Henry Mitchell, Terry Osment, Kim Osment, and Jackie Winningham and the Don Neal Men’s Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Interment will be in Bolivar Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the American Red Cross. Arrangements are by Jackson’s Funeral Home.
