Mrs. Ethel Dean (Flinn) Barnes of Batesville, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the age of 83. She was born February 8, 1934 in Newark, the daughter of Ernest and Mae (Jimmerson) Flinn. Mrs. Barnes worked at General Motors many years, and volunteered at Help and Hope in Batesville. She loved being outside, and working in her yard. Mrs. Barnes enjoyed painting, puzzles, and was an avid reader. During her time at Woodlawn, she became a birdwatcher, as well. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Tanzy Barnes; two brothers, Buddy Flinn and Billy Flinn; three sisters, Merle Childers, Ruby Stewart, and Barbara Adams; and her parents. She is survived by one sister, Mary Brisbin and husband, Don, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; her special friend and caregiver, Glenda Hernstrom; several other family members and a lifetime of friends. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Thursday, 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Macedonia Cemetery.
