Levi Howard Hitt, 80, of Trumann formerly of Harrisburg departed this life Thursday, March 14 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Howard was born April 13, 1938 in Harrisburg the son of Levi and Maurice (Donel) Hitt. He married Dorothy “Dot” Edwards on April 14, 1959 and they have enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage. His parents preceded him in death. Howard graduated from Central High School and then served his country in the United States Navy for thirteen years as flight Radio Operator. He is a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church/Central Community Church, worked eighteen years for Poinsett County Road Department and retired in 1998. Howard was also Past Master of Poinsett Masonic Lodge #184. Howard enjoyed collecting coins and arrowheads, raising finches, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Dot of the home in Trumann, one son, Howard Blaine Hitt of Manila, Arkansas, two daughters: Mary Becky Hitt of Harrisburg, and Marie Denise Whitman of Trumann, five brothers: Bobby J. Hitt of Monroe, Louisiana, Curtis Wayne Hitt of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tommy E. Hitt of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Maurice L. Hitt of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and Kenneth Barry Hitt of Los Angeles, California, one sister, Evelyn Janet “Jan” Simpson of Harrisburg, Arkansas, eight grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 2:00 Tuesday, March 19 at Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home with visitation Monday, March 18 from 6:00~8:00. Bro. Maurice L. Hitt will conduct the service. These men will serve as Active Pallbearers: Tony Byrd, Cody O’Guinn, Josh Whitsett, Chevy Sullivan, Donnie Wright, and Darren Hitt. These men will serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Ken Bell, Carl Day White, Roy Guthrie, J E Qualls, Wayne Taylor, Bob Ward, and Poinsett Masonic Lodge #184. Interment will be in Bolivar Cemetery. Arrangements are by Jackson’s Funeral Home.
