Maurice Miller

Mr. Maurice W. Miller, of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the age of 85. He was born March 27, 1932 at Amagon, Arkansas, the son of Willie Wesley and Ora Mae Akins Miller. Mr. Miller was a 1949 graduate of Beedeville High School and a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Miller served in the Korean War as an Air Force mechanic. He was a self-employed farmer. Mr. Miller served on the Board of Directors for Riceland Foods for over 25 years and served on the boards of numerous organizations. He was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous and was very proud to help others in need. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Miller in March; and his parents. Mr. Miller is survived by three children, Harold Dean Miller and wife, Fonda, of Remmel, Ronnie Maurice Miller and wife, Carla, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Susan Miller Fletcher and husband, Darryl of Remmel; one brother, Stanley Miller of Fort Smith; one sister, Irene Joplin of Cord; seven grandchildren, Charles Wesley Miller and fiancé, Ashley, Brandie Leigh Miller Summerlin and fiancé, Brady, Ashli Elaine Miller Grady, Bradley Ross Miller and wife, Hannah, Ely Redmond Miller, Kori Stephens, and Kolby Burton; seven great-grandchildren, Robert Trent Summerlin, Lawton Miller Summerlin, Jordan Davis Grady, Jalen Tyler Grady, Mattie Grace Stephens, Sophie Jean Staggs, and Rayleigh Gray Cloud. Friends may visit at the Remmel Cemetery Pavilion Tuesday 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Remmel-McCall Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Dean Miller, Ronnie Miller, Charles Wesley Miller, Darryl Fletcher, Kolby Burton, James Tharp, Bradley Ross Miller, Ely Miller and Troy Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Gil Doyle and Bud Connor. Arrangements by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.
