Liane Denton Obituary

Liane Ruth Richman Denton, 84, went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2019. She was born in Buffalo, ND on January 24, 1935 to Elmer and Agnes Richman. She was the first of five children. Liane enjoyed horseback riding and basketball as a young woman. She graduated from Tower City High School in 1953 and from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN with a BA in English in 1957. She left North Dakota then to teach high school English for two years in Belgrade, MN. She then moved to Lemon Grove, CA where she taught at Palm Junior High School. She met Richard Denton in 1959, and they were married in 1961 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in San Diego. Liane retired from teaching in 1962 when their son Paul was born. Daughter Lesley was born in 1965. The Dentons built a home in Spring Valley, CA and lived there throughout the children’s school years. The family enjoyed camping and taking trips to North Dakota to visit relatives on the farm. They also traveled in Europe. Liane enjoyed thrift store shopping, antiquing, furniture refinishing, and gardening. Richard retired in 1998, and they began a life on the road in their RV for nearly 10 years. In 2007 they bought a home in Borrego Springs, CA, spending the winters there and spending their summers at their home in Tower City, ND from 1999 to 2009. After her parents passed away, Liane and Dick divided their time between Borrego Springs and San Diego. In 2014 they moved to their permanent home in El Cajon. Liane was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Peter Richman. She is survived by her husband Richard; son Paul (Jessie) Denton; daughter Lesley (Dave) Moss; grandchildren Ryan Miller, Jacob (Aubrey ) Miller, Casey Moss, Scout Denton; and two great-grandchildren Dakota Miller and Evelyn Miller, all of San Diego, CA; brother Douglas (Janice) Richman of Tower City, ND; sister-in-law Karen Richman of Valley City, ND; sister Claudia (David) Nelson of Dixon, IL; and brother Kenneth (Linda) Richman of Ellston, IA. A celebration of life will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 5150 Wilson St., La Mesa, CA on January 27 at 10:00 AM. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Luke’s Memorial Fund in memory of Liane Denton, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 5150 Wilson St., La Mesa, CA 91941 or the Huntington Disease Society of America, San Diego Chapter.
