Franz Apostol Obituary

Born March 19, 1978, in Hawaii, Franz passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2016, in Elk Grove, California, surrounded by his family. He was the son of Manuel Apostol and Luz Villanueva Apostol and brother of Winston and Howard Apostol and Manuel Crisanto. Franz will forever be cherished by his many family members and friends. After graduating from Valley High School in 1996, he attended and graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a degree in Biology and Japanese before attending medical school at Albany Medical College and continuing his studies at St. George’s University in Grenada. Between his undergraduate and graduate studies, Franz satiated his appetite for travel and interest in Japanese culture by applying and becoming a part of the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. He furthered his traveling exploits by frequently traveling between Japan, the Philippines, Europe, Grenada, and throughout the United States like New York, Nevada, and Hawaii. Franz was intensely curious, able to dive into the details of any subject when he desired, and helpful, sharing his knowledge with as many as possible. He loved children, and enjoyed pillow-fighting and wrestling against them as they ganged up to climb him like the giant he was to them. A gifted pianist, Franz could play by ear and swiftly entertain any family and friends with a newly learned song. At his best, his contagious humor and positive outlook injected light, joy, and hope into others whether in person or in one of the online communities he frequented. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
