FISCHER, HELEN Passed away in Elk Grove, CA. on November 19, 2017. Born September 30,1918 to Jacob and Katherina (Stroh) Ackerman, near Streeter ND. She married Gilbert Fischer November 24, 1938. Gil and Helen farmed in Streeter and Gackle, ND. until 1953, then purchased the RED OWL Grocery store in Medina. In 1957 they moved to California and operated the Bridgehouse Café near Sloughhouse until 1960 when they started Gil’s Service in Franklin. Gilbert passed away in 1974 and Helen partnered with her Son Dennis to continue operating Gil’s Service until she retired in December 2011 at 93 years young. Helen enjoyed visiting and serving her customers while in business along with sharing her Homemade pickles, her hobbies included crocheting and quilting. She quilted until her death making Baby Blankets and Afghans for Linus Project. Survived by her daughter Iva(Ben) Bates of Dunnigan, CA. sons Delmer(Eileen)Fischer of Citrus Heights, CA. and Dennis(Janice) Fischer of Franklin, CA. Three grandsons Keith Schultz of Sacramento, CA. David(Sheree) Fischer, Rocklin, CA. Marc(Julia) Fischer McKinney, TX. Three great Grandsons Nicholas Fischer , Cole Fischer, Kyle Schultz, and one great granddaughter Sofia Fischer. Sisters Freida Wittmier, Steele ND, Edna Nickanen, Mt Iron, MN, and two brothers Reuben Ackerman, Gackle, ND, and Elmer(Dena) Ackerman Hutchinson, MN. Proceeded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Walter, Edwin, Hubert Ackerman and four sisters Rose Fischer, Lydia Reich, Emma Hins, a sister in infancy and great granddaughter Samantha Schultz. Friends are invited to the Visitation Sunday, November 26 from noon to 5 p.m. at Herberger Family Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove and to the Services Monday, November 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St Luke’s Lutheran Church, 7595 Center Parkway, Sacramento.
