Lucille Morgan

MORGAN, LUCILLE MARIE Born August 14, 1936 and passed away February 23, 2016. A Sacramento native and lifelong resident, Lucille was a graduate of McClatchy High School, Sacramento City College and Sacramento State University. She began her teaching career in the fifth grade at Immaculate Conception Parish School in Oak Park and also taught at Holy Spirit Parish School. She later worked for the State of California, most notably at the California Highway Patrol from 1976 to 2001, when she retired as CHP Headquarters Librarian. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Geroma Morgan, her brothers, Stephen Morgan and Joseph Morgan, and her beloved niece, Diana Jo Morgan, whom she raised. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Carole Morgan, and many friends and neighbors. Lucille loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees and attended many Sacramento Solons games at the old Edmunds Field on Broadway. She introduced girls sports on the elementary school playground and added coaching to her teaching responsibilities. She remembered all her students, and could still name the state assignments for each of the students in her fifth grade classes. She was devoted to her family and friends, her pupils, love of learning and teamwork. She followed current events and politics and often quoted her father, a dominant figure in her life. Lucille was a dog-lover and shared her home with a number of cherished pets. We wish to express thanks to Lucille’s caregivers, Angie and Moe, and others who helped her in so many ways, including the caring medical staff at Sutter General Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Church, 660 Florin Road in Sacramento on February 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Christian Brothers High School or the SPCA.
