Alma Anna Dencklau Obituary

Alma Anna Swanson Dencklau, 93 passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10th. Her life was a perfect example of a loving daughter, sister, wife and above all else mother. Alma was born in Boxholm, Webster County, Iowa on May 28, 1920. She was the second daughter of Swen and Minnie Swanson. She and her six brothers and sisters were raised on various farms throughout Iowa and Minnesota. She graduated from Callender High School, Iowa and was very active in theatricals and singing in her beloved Lutheran Church. In Bethany, Missouri, she married her husband, Marvin on September 15, 1941. Soon her husband was inducted into the military and served his country during World War II. She lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa and gave birth to their first son Gary. After Marvin’s discharge from the U.S. Army they took up residence in Des Moines, Iowa and a daughter, Keri was born. In 1951 the family moved to Long Beach, California. She worked as a secretary and office manager for several firms in Long Beach and gave birth to her son Larry. Later, moving to Idyllwild, California, she provided support to the family business and took care of her young grandchildren. While living in Palm Desert, California she and her husband built their home together while she worked at Desert Island Resort as office manager. After retirement, she and Marvin moved to Hemet, California where they joined St. John’s Lutheran Church. During their time in Hemet, they were active grandparents and great-grandparents, enjoying family visits and outings. Alma was best loved for her continual support and love to her family. She will be remembered for her optimism in times of struggle, her sweet singing voice which never wavered and her wonderful humor which allowed her to laugh with all she knew. Alma is survived by her husband Marvin, her 3 children Gary (Susan) of Redlands, CA, Keri (Rodger McClure) of Hemet, CA and Larry (Monica) of Beaverton, OR, her 4 grandchildren Malissa Rose, Gary Dencklau II, Amy Loveland and Chad Callicott. She also leaves 5 great-children. Although her older sister Viola preceded her in passing, she is survived by 3 sisters (Irene, Ruth and Marlene) and 2 brothers (Earle and Wayne), and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made to Health Essentials Hospice 11801 Pierce St, Ste 220, Riverside, CA 92505.
