Ruby King Baker passed away Friday, May 24th at the age of 93 at her home in Pasadena. Mrs. Baker, who is survived by her son Joseph Christopher Baker of Pasadena, who spent 18 at the LA Time a a sportswriter, had been in a hospice care at her home for the previous week. A memorial service is being held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Pasadena followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, an a repast at the church. Mrs. Baker will be interned in the Loving Kindness Section of Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills near he husband Attorney Joseph E. Baker, who passed away April 30, 1996 of Alzheimer's and Renal Failure at 79. Mrs. Baker, has numerous nieces and nephews and a sister in law, Ruth Baker, 88, in Fort Worth Texas, where her late husband's nephew, Jimmy runs Baker Funeral Home. Ruby and Joe Baker were married on Memorial Day 1953 at her parents house in Pasadena Morn, March 15, 1926 to Luther King and Eliza Delores King in Little Rock Ark., Mrs. Baker attended South Pasadena Junior High, Washington Junior High in Pasadena, received her AA degree at Pasadena Junior College before receiving a BA and a Masters in Social Work from USC in 1952. She worked the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Service from 1962 until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Baker remained quite active after her retirement. Mrs. Baker, who bought her house in Pasadena along with her husband, Joe in 1962, enjoyed gardening and served several terms on the board of directors of First Lutheran, which she attended for 51 years. She also served as a director of social ministries at her church, cooking meals for Elizabeth House in Pasadena. Mrs Baker had on sister, Dr. Betty King Hardie, who was born March 3,1935 and passed away Sept. 16, 2018 in Santa Monica, CA. Hardie earned a doctorate in education at the University of San Diego and proceeded her older sister in death after having two back surgeries, two broken hips and several seizure. Her husband Phil Hardie passed away last June 6, 2018 in Los Angeles at 93 after suffering from Alzheimer's.
