Bette Rich Obituary

After a series of illnesses, Bette Ivalene Rich 82, a resident of Auburn, Calif., passed away August 6, 2014 at the Auburn Oaks Care Center, in Auburn Calif. Our beloved mother, Bette, was born August 13, 1931 in Newton Ill. Her parents, Ivan and Nellie McCoy lived in Illinois and in 1934 purchased a farm when Bette was just less than four years old. She was raised as an only child until age 13 when her baby brother was born. Together our mother and her brother enjoyed their life on the farm, spending time with their parents, extended family and grandparents. At age 18, after graduating from Oblong High School in Oblong, Ill., Bette moved to Robinson Ind., where she went to work in a factory and met her soon to be husband, George Richard Rich. In the fall of 1949, November 26, the two of them married and moved to La Porte, Ind., where they both found jobs and worked. In 1951, due to a strike at her husband's work, they decided to move out to California and meet up with her brother-in-law to start a business, during which her first child was born. She went to work for JC Penny's until her second daughter was born in 1960. The couple with their two children purchased their first home in the San Fernando Valley in 1965, and in February of that year welcomed their third child, a son. Bette and her husband raised their children in Reseda, Calif., and together built a business working along side her husband where she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager. In 1980, the couple sold their home and moved to Northern California where they retired. Bette was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She had a great personality, and a wonderful sense of humor. Our mother especially loved the holidays, and family gatherings. She loved cooking, sewing, reading her Bible, and attending church. She was the one who taught her children the love of the Lord, for which we are so very grateful. She is preceded in death by her husband, George and daughter, Karon Magnusen. She is survived by her brother Lloyd McCoy, daughter Lori Fritzinger, and son Jay Rich and her nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A graveyard service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, August 18, 2014 at the Colfax Cemetery.
