Gloria Cannon Roseville, California Obituary

Gloria Cannon

Gloria Verna Pankonian Cannon, 85, returned to her heavenly home on October 14th, 2019. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in Jesus Christ was the center of her entire life. She was born in Wausau, Wisconsin to Albert and Elsie Pankonian, on January 21th, 1934, and was the eighth child in a family of nine, having 2 sisters and 6 brothers. Her only surviving brother is Harvey Pankonian, currently living in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Gloria arrived in Alturas, California, at age 13, and found a welcoming home with Roy and Marcia Cannon and their nine children. It was there that she met the two most important persons in her life: The Lord, Jesus Christ and Delwon Cannon, her loving husband of 69 years. Delwon and Gloria began their life together February 14th, 1950. The evening before their marriage, Delwon wheeled her up main street in an iron wheeled wheelbarrow. This began a life of adventure together. They raised their family in Alturas, where she was active in the Assembly of God Church, holding many different positions as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, Women’s Ministries, Missionettes and Den Mother in the Cub Scout program. Both she and Delwon participated in the youth program; Christ’s Ambassadors. She touched lives everywhere she went; and was a true disciple of Christ. Gloria was an excellent cook, warm and inviting homemaker, and the “most loving mother and wife in the whole wide world,” polished photographer, as well as family historian extraordinaire. She loved traveling, RVing, cruising, camping, and spending time with family, and was always packed and ready months in advance. She never missed acknowledging a birthday, anniversary or special occasion, sending cards and calling each and every family member often. Her smile was the light of our lives and her giggle was infectious. Gloria’s life is a true testament of devotion to God, family, perseverance, and finding joy in every circumstance. She leaves a legacy of unconditional love. Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Delwon; their sons Ronnie, Danny (Joyce) and Dale (Cari) Cannon; their daughter, Maxine (Jon) Lopey; her sister in law, Jewel (Keith) Bratton and their 52 grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister in law Dorothy French proceeded her in death. A celebration honoring Gloria’s life will be held at the Little Country Church, 873 Canby Rd. Redding, CA on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to TEACH (Foster Youth Program) of Alturas, or The Alturas Country Jam organizations. Prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted at www.chapelofthevalley.com
