Steven Turner Obituary

Steven Lee Turner, 69, of Sacramento, Ca died of natural causes on September 15, 2017. Steve was the oldest son of Robert Turner Jr. and Gloria (Toland) Turner born in Alva, OK on August 1, 1948 and was of German and Irish decent. His father known to most as Bob was a Border Patrol Officer and his mother known by most as Jackie was a housewife. Steve’s father’s job would make for a unique upbringing moving the family all across the United States. By the time Steve would graduate from Madison High Township in 1966 in Cliffwood, NJ Steve had lived in 6 cities from the Midwest to the South from the West Cost to the East Coast and landing in their 7th city Kansas City, Mo just after his graduation. Steve wouldn’t remain in Kansas City for long before going back to Oklahoma to attend Northwestern State Teachers College. After College He would return to Kansas City, Mo for a short while and then land a job as a Land Surveyor. Steve’s job as a Land Surveyor/Seismograph would take him back to California and up into Alaska where he was a part of the team that helped map the Alaskan Pipeline in 1968/69. While staying in California on his way to Alaska he would meet his wife Anita Turner (Kopp). They would marry in the summer of 1969 in Kansas City, Mo and by the winter of 1971 they would welcome their first daughter Tina. A few years later the family would move back to California and in the summer of 1977 they would welcome their second daughter Tara. Steve continued to work in the Land Surveying field and worked on such projects like, the restoration of the State Capitol and the famous Crocker Art Museum. In 1983 the family would relocate in the Sacramento area and Steve would leave his long time work as a Party Chief and open up his own computer programming company. Just three years after the family’s move and after 17 years of marriage Steve and Anita would divorce and go their separate ways, but by the early 90’s Steve would take a job offer from the state of California working for the Water Resource Dept. as a photogrammetric and spending the remainder of his time in the work force there until his retirement. Several years after the dissolution of his marriage Steve would encounter a family friend, Margie, who he hadn’t been in touch with for many years. This encounter would lead to the next 21 years of his life. While the two never officially married they did become lifelong partners and spent the majority of their time together. Living, traveling, and enjoying each other’s company. One of the couples favorite activities together was taking rides across the country and up and down the coast on the different motorcycles the two owned together, their motorcycle club and the many charity rides they did as a couple. By the end of Steve’s life he had lived in almost every state in the US for one reason or another, had acquired his Land Surveyors License. And even got his Pilot License, he enjoyed taking photographs and would own several cameras through the years even having his own dark room for a time. He loved the arts, participating in plays in his school years and annually attended them in his adult life with his youngest daughter. Taking both his children to operas, museums, and symphonies. He enjoyed the outdoors and one of his favorite pass times was camping. He coached little league, sponsored his oldest daughters softball teams, played tennis, and hiked. But his greatest passions were mathematics, computers, motorcycles and telling long grand stories. Steve is survived by his two brothers Mike and Larry Turner, his two daughters Tina and Tara, his two son-in-laws Peter and Ovidiu, his three grandchildren Sandra, Isabella and Preston, and his entire extended family Margie (his life partner), Mike and Penny, Debbie and Kevin and their two children Brandon and Tyler, and Cindy. Per Steve’s request he was cremated and no formal funeral services are being held. There will be a celebration of life open to all at Margie’s home on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 12:00pm located at 1413 Claudia Dr. Sacramento, Ca 95822.
