Edward Chargualaf

Edward David Chargualaf originally from Agana Heights, Guam was called to rest peacefully by our heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in San Diego, California. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Teresita Avanceña Chargualaf; his son Joseph Joaquin Chargualaf and his wife Cynthia Nisperos and two daughters – Dereka Danielle & Danika Gabrielle; Edward David Chargualaf, Jr. and his wife Christina Lizama and their children – Jayna Elizabeth, Joshua, Hannah Isabella & Edward David, III; and Valerianne Lourdes Teresita Avenceña Chargualaf-Stephenson and her husband Craig Stephenson and their sons – Cole Alan and Luke Ridge. In his new life, he has joined his mother, Ana Chargualaf; his che'lu, Joaquin J. 'Doi' Chargualaf; and his granddaughter, Angela Gabrielle Nisperos Chargualaf. He was born and raised on Guam and lived for several years in Hawaii prior to relocating to San Diego, CA so he could be closer to his children and grandchildren. After graduating as salutatorian from Father Dueñas Memorial School, he served his country by joining the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He returned to Guam after completing his service and started his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He then met and married his beautiful wife, Teresita, and started his family. He dedicated his life to them from baseball to being the President of the PTA at the schools. He was just as dedicated to his job and became Postmaster of Guam and eventually was promoted to a Regional Director position in Hawaii, the first for a Chamorro. And later graduated from Duke University, School of Business. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Rotary Club, and served as a Board of Director for the Naval Marianas Federal Credit Union and the Honolulu Federal Employees Federal Credit Union. In his youth, Edward David was a seminarian and never lost his love for the church and its teachings. He also had a passion for fast cars, motorcycles and culture. He enjoyed cooking, dancing, singing, telling a good story or joke and taking care of others. He was an understanding man and was eager to share whatever he had – whether it be food, laughter or wisdom. He easily made friends everywhere he went. Edward David loved the islands he called home – Guam and Hawaii, but he loved his family even more and so that is what brought him to California. Pop/Dad/Grandpa/Tata made it a point to always be there for his family. He adored his grandchildren and always referred to them as his Princesses and Princes and his bosses – there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He especially enjoyed cooking for them whenever they asked for kelaguen or kadu or whatever dish for that matter and it would be on the table that very same day . He gave all he had and always made people around him feel loved, special and number one. From birthday parties, to holidays, and any occasion big and small, he was the life of the party at all of our celebrations. He was fun, caring, sincere, honest, thoughtful and selfless. No matter what you knew him as – Dad, Pop, Tata, Grandpa, Ed, David, Uncle Ed, Uncle David, Nino, Primo or Che’lu, I am certain that we can all agree that he was an amazing man. Fortes In Fide
