She Worked as an Administrative Assistant at Dames and Moore and later as the Foreign Language Project Coordinator at Occidental College, both in California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bengt Bratt.
She is survived by her brother Gerd, son Stephen, daughter-in-law Amber, Granddaughter Brianna and her many dear friends. She was the daughter of Eugen and Elsa Frohner, born in Rotweil, Germany. The family will be holding a private celebration of Gerlinde’s life to coincide with Earth Day.
Gerlinde was born in Germany near the end of World War II. As a child, she survived through difficult post war years. She often told stories of how she and her brother would help the family by doing things like collecting scrap metal from bombs that had landed in the countryside. In her early twenties, she met the man who would bring her to the United States and marry her. She married Bengt in San Francisco in 1966. In late December 1967, she gave birth to their only son, Stephen. She spent the next several years putting forth all her effort to raising her son with more love than imaginable. When Stephen was older, Gerlinde began to work at Dames and Moore in downtown Los Angeles. For a period of about fifteen years, she was a well-loved fixture at the office. After her tenure at Dames and Moore, Gerlinde began working as the Coordinator for the Foreign Language Project at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, California. She was a valued asset to the program there. She often fondly described the visits of Travis and Joshua Braid, who would stop in on their walk home from school to check in with her. When her son had the opportunity to transfer to Colorado in 2007, Gerlinde enthusiastically accepted his offer to move in with his family in their new home. She spent several vibrant years living the Colorado lifestyle before she was admitted to a nursing home in Broomfield. She spent her remaining years there where she enjoyed visits from her granddaughter, other family, and friends.
She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She was well loved by her many friends. She will be greatly missed.
