Our dearest Leonel “Leo” Quirarte, 68, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 after a hard fought battle with bile duct cancer.
Leo was born in Strong City, KS on June 23, 1949, the son of Santos and Margaret Quirarte. He was a 1967 graduate of Strong City High School. He then received his B.S. degree from Emporia State University. Leo served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975.
An avid runner most of his life, he participated in marathons, half-marathons, and countless 5k races. As a resident of Broomfield, CO for close to 40 years, he was a loyal parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church.
Keeping his memory alive are his three daughters Wendy Testa of Thornton, CO, Angie (Tom) Worrall of Brighton, CO, and Nicole (Justin) Metz of Broomfield, CO. His two grandchildren Caleb and Shelby Metz. Seven siblings John (Julie) Quirarte of Tulsa, OK, Ed (Carol) Quirarte of Wichita, KS, Cesar (Wanda) Quirarte of Bartlett, TN, Gene (Deb) Quirarte of Lawrence, KS, Rose (Don) Good of Council Grove, KS, Evie (John) Deitrich of Holton, KS, and Gloria (Kenny) Davis of Independence, KS. Including many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Margaret, 2012, Santos, 2013 and his great niece Lila Belle Deitrich, 2013.
