Obituary for Lucy Newell

Lucy Newell,88, of Broomfield, Colorado died Thursday, November 10,2011. She was born March 18, 1923 in New Haven, Iowa to the late Esther and Lawrence Mauser. Lucy graduated from Osage High
School in 1941, and the Denver Business School in her early 20s. She and Dick Newell,a graduate of Carbon County High School, Red Lodge, Montana in 1937, got married on November 27, 1951. They lived in Denver, Arvada and mostly Broomfield, Colorado. They also enjoyed winters in Homestead, Punta Gorda, Florida as well as Mesa, Arizona.

Lucy worked as a Checker at Safeway for over 30 years. She was dearly loved by her friends and customers, entertaining them with her delicious cooking and sweet personality. In her last days at the nursing home, she won 1st place in the costume contest as a clown for Halloween. She was very peaceful at the end of her life and left behind a dear roommate who loved and cared for her every minute of the day. Her spirit is alive and well.

Lucy loved the outdoors and thought a day in Estes Park was like a vacation. Dick and Lucy, best of friends, liked to dance, hike, play golf, tennis and take Ace, our most beloved dog, for walks in the park. Lucy was an amazing person who was one of the hardest working people we’ve known.

Lucy is survived by her husband Dick Newell, children Mark and Sandy, and grandson Aaron. Aaron is a 3rd year medical student, engaged in first year clinical practice in England. She also has two sisters, Dorothy Krogstad of Osage Iowa, and Phyllis Brandt of Dysart, Iowa.
