Longtime Broomfield resident Mary Maxwell, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge. She died five days short of her 90th birthday.
She was born Mary Doris Mahoney on August 23, 1927 in Vinita, Oklahoma, the daughter of Thomas E. and Irene (McCreedy) Mahoney. Mary grew up in Tulsa, OK where she attended and graduated from Holy Family High School in 1945. She moved right after graduation to Boulder, CO where she attended The University of Colorado. She worked after college for The Front Range Community College as a Senior Administrative Official.
On September 22, 1956, Mary was united in marriage to Lee Roy Maxwell at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Tulsa, OK. To this union five children were born; Susan, Joe, Andy, James and Dan.
Mary enjoyed going camping, embroidery and crafts, and was an avid reader. She loved working word puzzles and wouldn’t quit until the last word was found.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee Roy on May 22, 1999, daughter Susan Maxwell, son’s James Maxwell, Dan Maxwell, and her sister Dorothy Hill.
Surviving family members are her sons Joe Maxwell and his wife Dee Dee of Brighton, and Andy of Commerce City. Also surviving are 4 Grandchildren and 4 Great-grandchildren.
There will be a rosary and visitation with the family on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Rundus Funeral Home, 1998 W. 10th Ave, Broomfield, CO 80020.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Nativity Of Our Lord Catholic Church, 900 W. Midway in Broomfield. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
Memorials may be made in her name to Collier Hospice or Nativity Of Our Lord Catholic Church.
