Sheila McKenzie Obituary

Sheila Willis McKenzie, age 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on December 29, 2019. She was born the second daughter to the late Henry D. Willis and Ruby D. Willis on February 25, 1951 in Panama City, Florida. Growing up in a military household, Sheila called many places “home” during her childhood, from Alaska to the Rio Grande. She graduated from high school in Sevilla, Spain and received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Georgia State University in 1977. Sheila’s greatest joy in life was her family. As a mother of three sons, she took great pride in cheering them on during sporting events and was their biggest fan through all of life. In later years, she enjoyed travelling with her husband. Sheila was a generous and caring woman. She was a source of strength for many and often expressed her love through her cooking and baking. She was a great hostess, friend, wife, mom, sister, and “Mimi” to her grandsons. Sheila showed amazing courage, strength, and unwavering faith during her 28-month battle with endometrial cancer. She is survived by her husband James McKenzie, her three sons: Adam, Trevor, and Daniel, her sisters: Vicki Willis and Cindy Mixon, her brother Rodney Willis, and her grandsons: Aiden, Deacon, and Tate. A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held in Colorado Springs on January 13th at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church 219 E Bijou St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sheila’s honor to Ecumenical Social Ministries in Colorado Springs: 201 North Weber Street 80903. The McKenzie family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care for the tender physical care Sheila has received. They would also like to thank each and every member of the First Presbyterian Mountain Shadows life group for their unfailing emotional support and faithful prayers during this extremely difficult season of life.
