Betty Burns Obituary

Betty Burns passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on July 1, 2014. She was born in Peyton, Colorado on June 10, 1927 to John and Letha Lillian Arfsten Betty was the loving wife of the late Chester C. Burns and loving mother of seven children who survive her; John Arfsten Burns, Phillip Burns, Linda Burns, Leslie Burns, Joan Kinsley, Lawrence Burns and Joseph Burns. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was a lifelong Colorado resident and a Florissant resident for over 50 years. Betty was an active Grange member. She was on the Teller County Historical Board, was a founding member of the Florissant Heritage Society and was instrumental in getting the old Florissant school house on the National Historic Register. Betty was instrumental in starting the first library in Florissant which for many years was in the cookhouse at the Grange. Betty was a member of the 'Help-U-Club', the 'Sew-n-Sews' as well as helping to begin the Florissant Volunteer Fire Department and maintaining the Florissant Cemetery. She helped to start the "jam session" at the Grange which is still a valuable source of entertainment, information and a social night in the Florissant and Lake George area. Betty will be missed dearly both as a mother, friend and a community leader. A time of Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9, from 10:00AM - 1:00PM at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, with a Funeral Service to follow at 1:00PM. Arrangements are under the care of Blunt Mortuary in Colorado Springs, CO.
