Beverly Schweem Carney Obituary

Beverly Jean Schweem Carney, wife of James “Tom” Carney, passed away at home on Monday, October 18, 2010 embraced by the love of family and friends. “Jeanne” was born in Lead, South Dakota on April 11, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Doris (Morrison) Podsiadly and Edward Podsiadly, who resided in Scottsdale, AZ. Jeanne was married to the late Dr. Herbert Schweem of Bremen, Germany for twenty three years. Daughters Christina Renee Lull and Maria Elizabeth French were born from that union. In 1988, Jeanne and Tom were wed and they remained married for twenty two years. Jeanne graduated from the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Phoenix, AZ. Pending retirement in 1981, Colorado Springs, CO was their chosen destination. Jeanne was an active member of the community for over thirty years. She devoted time to numerous charities including the Assistance League, Meals on Wheels and Silver Key. She also served as a voluntary manager for the “Bargain Box” which serves underprivileged children by providing school clothes and supplies at the start of the school year. Jeanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Christina of Windsor, CO and Maria (Jim) of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Winnie Coburn (Robert) of Tucson, AZ, Judy Rich (Steve) of San Diego, CA and Deborah Tanaka (Ken) of Camarillo, CA. She is also survived by six cherished grandchildren, Krystal Troxel (Andrew), Kenric and Kyle Lull, Angela and Allison Hildebrand and Renee French; great grandchildren, Ryder and Ryleigh Troxel; three stepchildren and ten step grandchildren. Jeanne is preceded in death by sisters, Verda Marsh and Marie Louise Taylor. In celebration of Jeanne’s life, we invite you to attend a memorial service at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Southgate, 1830 S. Corona Ave, Colorado Springs, CO on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 10:00 AM. The Mass will be officiated by Father Gregory Golyzniak with a reception to follow in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations be made to the Assistance League of Colorado Springs, 318 E. Cimarron St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 and/or Evercare Hospice, 5450 Tech Center Drive., Suite 120, Colorado Springs, CO 80919.
