Eilene Crist Obituary

Eilene Crist, 92, passed away quietly in her sleep at the home of her son Mickey on December 7, 2019. A life-long resident of Colorado Springs, she was born November 27, 1927 to Phil and Alice Deuser (Dooley). She was preceded in death by her brother Jim and her sister Betty as well as her youngest son Jack and her only grandson Jesse. She is survived by her son Mickey and his wife Yvonne, who was Mom’s “bestest friend” and caregiver during her last year and by step-daughter Jennifer, who liked to play cards with Mom and talk to her about anything and everything. She is also missed by her cousin Kathy Dooley and nieces Vickie Zepeda and Linda Lawson and numerous nieces and nephews and by her little dog Sally. A product of the Great Depression and World War II she knew the value of sacrifice for others and hard work. She married Robert Crist two weeks after her eighteenth birthday upon his return from the War in Europe. They raised two boys and Mom lived in the same house for seventy years. They were married fifty-five years until Bob passed in 2000. In 2001 she married Bob’s brother Ralph and they were wonderful companions and help-mates until his death in 2015. Mom loved unconditionally her God and her family and her believing circle of friends. She always had that sparkle in her eyes and a smile on her face and the first words out of her mouth to visitors was usually “What can I get you?” Someone recently said of her that “She made everyone feel better about themselves.” Even in her later years as dementia robbed her of her memories and she didn’t always recognize those around her she spoke of her undying belief in her Creator’s love and protection. Her sense of humor was infectious. A couple of weeks before she passed, I found a piece of paper upon which she had written: “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. That is why I don’t dust my house because it may be someone I know.” Her passing has left a vacant place in all of our hearts and she will never be forgotten. I ask that everyone who knew her to think of and treasure their favorite Eilene memory. The world is a better place for her having been in it
