Bill Hyer died peacefully at his home in Colorado Springs on December 9, 2010, with his
wife, Margaret, at his side. Throughout his life, Bill had several careers. He worked in the
supermarket industry for 17 years, then moved to real estate/land development and water
rights. Upon retirement, Bill turned to abstract spiritual oil painting, which has garnered
him a national and international following. Another passion of Bill's was helping
homeless kids by providing clothing, food and medical needs. Bill himself was left
homeless at six years old upon the death of his father.
Bill was born in El Reno, OK on June 15, 1936 to Ernest Ray Hyer and Roberta Guyton.
He graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1955. Bill was predeceased by his
sister, Kay Collier and his parents. Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret Schroeder Hyer,
who he married on September 7, 1994. Bill is also survived by his son, Bill James Hyer;
his daughter, Joy Hyer Martin (Van); his stepdaughter, Christine Buchanan Aguilera
(Dave); and his stepson Bradley Buchanan (Jennifer). Bill and Margaret have nine
grandchildren.
Bill was a force of nature; steadfastly positive, loving, supportive, faithful, and brilliant.
Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 950 Vindicator
Drive, with the memorial service immediately following at 2:30 PM on Saturday,
December 18, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for monetary donations to the
Cottonwood Arts Center, Urban Peak or Pikes Peak Hospice.
